Please be aware we can not know each and every single router's installation peculiarities in and out. So this guide might not cut it for your case, we're trying our best.

Prerequisites

• you have to be registered at CSN. anmeldung
• You've already (tried) registering devices at CSN?

Make sure you have space for one more!

  You can register up to 2 devices at CSN, but no more. 
  If you already have registered 2 devices, you'll have to delete 
  some device to make room for a new one. 
  You can check and delete already registered devices at:
  https://www.csn.tu-chemnitz.de/secure/user/

Connect the router device correctly:

Connect the ethernet-cable to the „WAN“ / „Internet“-Port of your router!
If your router does not have a „WAN“/„Internet“-port:

  1. check your router's manual; look for a section called 
  "connect to existing network" / "connect with router" or anything similar
  2. you may have to connect to "Lan1"; The manual should explain this

Connect the ethernet cable's other end into an ethernet-wall-socket of your choice!

  1. You may only have one singular ethernet-wall-socket.
  2. Do not attempt to plug it into a DSL-socket! 
  You won't be able to connect to CSN this way.

Set up router

* You may reset your router, if it has been used before.
..and you suppose this could hinder the registration process
Try out the integrated guided setup!

general installation options to apply:

  1. operation mode: **wireless router**
  2. connection type: **DHCP / "automatic" / "dynamic IP"**

Check your router's manual in case of uncertainties;
search for a section called „connect to existing network“ ..or anything similar!

Register device at CSN

Upon connecting to your router you should be able to open up a captive portal.
Either in your network-settings or when opening up a webbrowser of your choice.

  1. In the captive portal form set the correct wall-port,
  that you've connected your router to!.
  (These ports are usually enumerated; you may also only have one singular port)
  2. Do NOT change the suggested MAC-address; keep it as-is!
  3. Press apply-changes
  4. Wait.. For changes to take effect you may have to wait half an hour.
  Please be patient!

Problems
'The captive portal doesn't show up?'
Try initiating it manually by calling them up in your webbrowser:

Still doesn't work?

Make sure you're actually connected to the router you're trying to register
via wifi or ethernet (..and not to a different router or mobile internet)
Check whether or not you are able to open up csn.tu-chemnitz.de!
  if so: Is your device already registered at CSN?
  Try opening up other websites!
  if not: Your router may not be connected correctly or not set up correctly.
  Please revisit previous points made and read the router's manual!

Devices to NOT use:

1. DSL-only routers
2. access points
3. glass-fibre optic modems
